At the turning of the century Arad was considered as an important place for Hungarian pictorial
photography. Without mentioning names of Márton Matusik, Baron László Bohus, Faix and other Arad Photo
Club members history of Hungarian pictorial photography would be a torso. Faix, whose name is rather
French sounding was a piano factory owner and as a talented photo-amateur he became an important figure
of pictorial style and managing member of Arad Photo Club. He was not only an excellent photographer of
artistic photos but he was popularizing photo-procedures. He lectured on rubber- and pigment-procedures.
He took part in several exhibitions until the 1930s. He had an important role in Arad’s cultural and
social life. He was always visited by artists arriving in the town. Some signed photos are still
preserved by the family, e.g. Pablo Casals. One part of his negatives are preserved by Hungarian Museum
of Photography. The exhibition was organised on the basis of this heritage and documents presented by
the family, in order to present an outstanding life-work of Hungarian pictorial photography.
