"Virtual photographic museum"

Having stepped into the second decade of existence, into the 21st century, the Hungarian Museum of Photography has worked out the professional strategy dominating its upcoming decade. Adopting to the all-so- common world-wide trend, we step out of the walls of the building, virtually duplicating the photographic museum. We aim to make everything the photographic museum has collected so far, and all the scientific background knowledge manifested in databases, biographies, essays and studies, attainable through the Internet and other digital carriers.

By the above we intend to serve the ever growing demand, that anyone should be able to enjoy all services provided by a museum on any part of the world through the computer, from home, and that scientific researchers should be given the chance to take up contact with museum from their offices.

The base activities we have been doing so far (collecting, preserving, scientific processing, art-piece protection, guarding, exhibiting, book publishing, educational methodical consulting) we plan to continue in the most conservative spirit. At the same time, we establish the new forms, which are necessary for the transmission of the 21st century museum cognition-system, also applying new ways of presentation for the total availability of our electronic archive on the Internet.

Virtually we duplicate the collection of the museum. The most important images of the photographic collection we digitise and supplement with researchable information material. Items of the camera collection and the photographic medal collection are presented on object-photographs, as well with necessary information. We also disclose the library of the museum, the document and letter archive, the biographical database, which contains the biographies of people, who have been dealing with photography in the past 164 years in Hungary. The exhibitions of the museum, the publications we present in temporary, virtual exhibitions too.

Under the title “Fotoklikk”, in co-operation with Netstudio Hungary we have created an important professional photographic sight, which serves both amateur and professional in finding material and information concerning the medium.
