Rudolf Balogh was a master of photography with golden diploma, a
photographer artist, one of the founder and best known representative of the so called Hungarian style
in photography. As a press photographer working from 1903 for Vasárnapi Újság (“Sunday Paper”) and
after 1920 for Pesti Napló he was one of the most effective representative of Hungarian press
photography. As a photographer artist and as a regular participant of exhibitions he was a pioneer,
formcreating character who was regarded as a guide for several of his contemporaries. Events of little
importance, everyday situations arrested in his pictures suggest bright view of life. His classical
compositions and absolute ambitions to create balance in his pictures also radiate harmony. He took
pictures of the characteristic signs of Hungarian village and lanscape. He did not only have a
tremendous effect by his photographs but he also became one of the guider of photographic public life
and played a significant role in the history of photographic trade press. Besides a detailed
description of his career and a bibliography aiming to be the most complete possible, more than 100
photographs of his preserved in Hungarian Museum of Photography represent his comprehensive oeuvre.
