The bequest of a photographer Family from MakĂł

1998, 112 pages, 150 pictures, with English summary (sold-out)
The Homonnai atelier worked between 1904 and 1936 in Makó, in the south part of the country. It was founded by Nándor Homonnai and it was run by his family after his death. More than a half of the some 48.000 negative taken during 32 years of the atelier being active, were found. In the book, whose publication was preceeded by a 4 year long research, Magdolna Szabó sketches the history of the family, Tibor Szűcs analyses atelier-photography based on the Homonnai bequest, and András Bán presents the survey of the society of a small town through pictures taken of a prominent personality of Makó found among the Homonnai legacy. The 150 photos in the book demonstrate the activity of the atelier comprising a town, a region. By means of these pictures the often disregarded genre of atelier photography, which is almost completely forgotten by now, is put in new light.
